Those who want a car wild and aggressive like a beast, but do not wish to put effort into taming it, need look no further than the new Mercedes-Benz AMG C43 Coupe.
Mercedes-Benz introduced its new model at the recent 2017 Indonesian International Motor Show.
The automaker's C-Class has had AMG models since 1995 with the AMG C36, followed by the C43, and this newest AMG C43 Coupe, the fourth generation of the class.
Its dashing exterior exudes sportiness, arising from the diamond grill, with a distinct line highlighting the silver arrow badge in the middle.
Its swan tail-like spoiler and rear bumper with dual exhaust enhance the sporty look, along with its 19-inch twin-spoke AMG wheels and sweeping sunroof.
Entering the cabin of this car, you might notice that the window panes of both doors are frameless, a characteristic of the coupe that induces exoticism and uniqueness.
The interior is dominated by black, while the use of Artico man-made leather combined with Dinamica microfiber makes passengers feel safe and comfortable.
The front seats are driven forward and backward manually by levers below, whereas the angle and lumbar support are controlled by electronic knobs operated from the sides.
On a car of this caliber, one would expect and all-electric system, but the dual controls are appatently in place to reduce power drain with higher performance in mind. It also allows the seats to be slid forward quickly for rear pasengers.
The dashboard of the AMG C43 Coupe is given tasteful, classy touches of black carbon fiber. A 7-inch monitor is at the heart of the console, displaying various kinds of information and functioning as a navigation system, radio and media player and can store 20CDs. Burmester speakers offer an audiophile experience, even with the exhaust note droning in the background.
The steering column has various buttons for audio, heat and cooling, Bluetooth, phone calls and cruise control. You can also change gears with shift paddles for a sportier feel.
As the driver sits and shuts the door, the seatbelt automatically moves forward from the driver's side for easier fastening. Another interesting feature is the heads-up display (HUD) - information about the car is projected on the windshield, such as speed and distance, without distracting the driver.
The trunk can be popped open via a button near the steering wheel, as well as by a button on the ignition key.
Another handy feature is that you can open the trunk by moving your foot underneath the rear bumper. Not anyone can open it though - a sensor in the key lets the car know when you're near, an especially useful gimmick when you're holding lots of bags or luggage.
Parking is aided via a 360-degree-view when maneuvering the car in a small space. The vehicle's surroundings will appear on the screen so that the driver doesn't need to worry about hitting anything that would otherwise be in a blind spot.
The AMG C43 comes with a V6 engine with a biturbo capacity of 2,996 cc. The manufacturer claims that the car is capable of producing 367 horse-power at 5,500-6,000 rpm with maximum torque at 520 Nm at 2,000-4,200 rpm. The engine is paired with a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission developed by AMG especially for this model.
This car is said to be able to reach 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 250 kph. At the time of this review, however, there was no chance for a test drive due to heavy traffic and inclement weather.
For suspension, AMG Ride Control with three regulatory levels serves as standard equipment. Its rear differential gear also comes complete with elasto-kinematics to ensure more dynamic driving.
In addition, driving modes can be chosen through AMG Dynamic Select, offering Comfort, Eco, Sport and Sport+modes. All settings can be operated by buttons in the middle console to adjust the car to the driver's wishes.
The Mercedes Benz AMG C43 Coupe starts at Rp1.44 billion (US$101,430).
